What is VisionScan?
VisionScan is a Windows document-scanning application derived from the open-source NAPS2 (Not Another PDF Scanner), with added workflow features for scan-to-PDF, per-profile output, filename/format control, and target-file-size compression — made for the day-to-day upload work of VBGRAMG operators and any office that scans documents to a portal.
Features
- Scan to PDF in one click — a Scan-to-PDF toolbar button and a per-profile Scan to PDF option give silent, auto-numbered PDF output.
- Choose the file name & type — a sidebar file-name box and a format selector for PDF, JPEG, PNG or TIFF.
- Combine pages into one file — accumulate flatbed pages, then save one multipage PDF.
- Max file size (KB) target — compresses the output (JPEG quality, then downscale) to fit an upload limit, e.g. “under 500 KB”.
- Two-sided ID card on one A4 — put both sides of an ID card on a single page.
- A4 by default, plus TWAIN / WIA / ESCL (network scanner) support inherited from NAPS2.
- Built-in self-update.
How to use it
- Download & install VisionScan (button above), then launch it from the desktop shortcut.
- Pick your scanner and choose the page size (A4 by default).
- Set the file name, the format (PDF/JPEG/PNG/TIFF), and — if the portal has a limit — a Max file size (KB).
- Click Scan to PDF. For a multipage document, use Combine pages into one file and save once at the end.
System requirements
- OS: 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Scanner: any TWAIN, WIA, or ESCL (network) scanner.
- Installer includes everything needed; no separate runtime to install.
Frequently asked questions
Is VisionScan free?
Yes. VisionScan is free and is based on the open-source NAPS2 project (GPL-2.0). The source for the build is available on GitHub.
How do I scan a document under the portal's size limit?
Set a Max file size (KB) before scanning — VisionScan compresses the output (reducing JPEG quality, then downscaling if needed) so the saved file fits the limit, e.g. under 500 KB.
Can I put both sides of an ID card on one page?
Yes — scan both sides and VisionScan places them on a single A4 page, ideal for job-card or ID uploads.
Can I make one PDF from several flatbed pages?
Yes. Use Combine pages into one file to accumulate pages, then save a single multipage PDF.
Which scanners work?
Any TWAIN or WIA scanner, plus ESCL network scanners — the same broad hardware support as NAPS2.
Is it based on NAPS2? What about the licence?
Yes, VisionScan is derived from NAPS2 and is distributed under GPL-2.0, inherited from NAPS2. The corresponding source is available under the same licence.
VisionScan is a free tool by Vision Technologies and Robotics, based on NAPS2 (GPL-2.0). VBGRAMG and related government portal names are the property of the Government of India; this tool is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any government body.
