With the developments of the leading web browsers all are dropping support for NPAPI Plugins like Java, Silverlight, Flash etc. So, now its a big thing to run java correctly. Google did it with their Chrome 45 way back in Sep 2015. Then I told everyone to use Mozilla Firefox to digital sign FTOs. Now Mozilla starts dropping support for NPAPI Plugins with Firefox 52 in Mar 2017.
Digital signature in Process…
All who have their browsers auto-upgrade turned on, are facing problem of “Digital signature in Process…” message just showing without any progress. The popups are not appearing. No option to enter the token’s PIN. This is happening because now Firefox is not running the Java applet which produces those pop ups.
The browsers are dropping support of those plugins as they are insecure and also runs slowly. Oracle (the developer of Java) in that case urges all the developer out there using Java Applet still now in their sites to switch to JWS (Java Web Start) which is a plugin free option. Also they are not stopping the support all on a sudden. Mozilla announced way back in Oct 8, 2015 about this issue.
But, our NIC (developer of most of the Government sites including MGNREGA) is 100 miles away form these matters. They still prefer older things. They use applet. I don’t know if security is a big concern, why do they use this now obsolete method to make transactions of crores of rupees? It is their concern. I don’t have such knowledge to explore their limitations.
I only have the working solution to run Java correctly in your computer so that you can digital sign FTOs.
So, here are some options you can use to run java correctly –
1st Option : Use a browser which still supports Java plugin (Like Internet Explorer, But Edge is not supported).
2nd Option : Use older versions of web browsers (Like Chrome 42 or Firefox 51).
3rd Option : Use latest Firefox 52 ESR version. It will support Java till early 2018.
